Hi Doctors, I had a total 40cc of fat grafted to my face 1 month ago. It was 10-15cc on each cheek blended with surroundings (in his words), 2-3cc on nasolabial fold, 1cc on the mouth corner, the rest on temples and forehead. My cheeks are fuller than what I want, and my jaw is squarish right now although the doctor didn't put any fat there. My question is, will this continue improving? How much more fat will be absorbed by the body and how can I know if all the swells are gone? Thank you!
Answer: Fat transfer to the face At 1 month you most certainly still have swelling. Some of the swelling is probably dependent which is making the lower third of your face looks fuller. I suspect 1 month more and just about all of the swelling will receive. The amount your surgeon put in is not a lot and I suspect things will look pretty good soon enough.

Answer: Fat transfer Thank you for your question. At just one month postoperative, you likely do have residual swelling. Once the swelling has fully subsided, you can expect to lose about 10% of the fat each year. Best of luck!

Answer: Fat graft are unpredictable Fat graft are always unpredictable. Normally 30-70% of fat get absorbed within 4-6 months period. After that time, it will me mostly stable. Basically, we over do the fat graft procedure on this statistics. You fat will be still be absorbing for some more time until you have your final result. Give yourself 5 more months for the final result.

Answer: Swelling after Fat Grafting to Face This is a question which I believe should have been answered by your surgeon prior to your procedure. The face is always quite larger than the desired immediately after fat grafting for 2 reasons. First, because you are grafting live tissue and some (10-25%) of this tissue dies, you need to place more fat in the area than you would like to be there in the end. Even if the cells dye relatively quickly, the body then takes time to remove them. Secondly, because you are running a cannula back and forth within the tissues, you are creating an injury. The body responds to injury by secreting fluid as well as the hormones and other agents necessary to heal the area. This swelling then takes a while to resolve also. I, therefore, tell everyone that it will take at least 4-6 months for all this to settle to the final result. At one month, you still have significant swelling from the body's reaction as well as residual cells that will be removed by the body.
