I have keloid scars on belly button 5 months post TT I have been told kenalog injections will help the scars appearance to get better is that true ? How long does it take to show improvement and what are the side effects ? If nothing is done will the keloids get worse ?

Answer: Belly button scar after tummy tuck hi and thanks for your question. You do not have a keloid or even really a hypertrophic scar. There are many causes and potential causes of your appearance. However, it is not a poor outcome. You could treat with lasers, scar massage, silicone strips or even topical steroids like temovate or similar creams even consider steroid impregnated tapes like Cordran. Some of these are expensive. You might have a topical cream compounded that contains Vit K, Vit C, and Retin A, his would help bleach the scar color. I would try to avoid Kenalog injection especially early after surgery as even small doses can thin he dermis and make the scar worse. In some cases it does help but your scar appears to be one that I would proceed cautiously. Make sure you avoid sun exposure for at least a year. Discuss all the options with your plastic surgeon. Finally if you are really unhappy consider a small surgical scar revision under local anesthesia in the office. Good luck!

Answer: Keloid I use Kenalog quite a bit and I find it very effective. However, you do need to give it time (6 months)
