What compression garment should i wear after tummy tuck with liposuction? Should the zipper be in the front or on the side?

in my practice, I do not find the postoperative tummy tuck garment especially important. Usually I recommend to my patients that they find something quite comfortable. I like them to wear it for the first three weeks or so but then they can make their own judgment whether it is more comfortable with or without the garment.

Garments are a big source of patient anxiety, and are semi-helpful.  Compression is generally good if it is not too tight or uncomfortable.  If it is uncomfortable, take it off! Find an alternative.  Many choices are available.  Spanx, spandex, Cupid, bike shorts and custom garments are available.  Find one that works and gives some compression to the surgical area.  

You should follow the advice of your plastic surgeon.I typically ask patients to use adjustable garments with multiple bands so that tension can be adjusted and the areas of liposuction are less likely to get a fluid collection. The key here is the size and the ability to tighten the garment not the brand or make.  My patients wear a soft cotton t-shirt under the garment to make it more comfortable.Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA

As long as a compression garment is not causing indenting, or too tight, then zipper location should not be important. I prefer that patients have gentle, uniform compression in the areas that have been treated with liposuction. I would recommend following back up with your surgeon, and also bringing your garment, as well as any alternatives that you may prefer to wear with you to your appointment. Best wishes. 

Most surgeon recommend wearing compression garments after liposuction, at least for a short while. I generally recommend three weeks. There are several different companies that make the garments. Your surgeon will make recommendations but will probably be flexible especially if it doesn't fit right. Sometimes the garments can cause some indentations or irritation. Wearing a cotton undershirt, or foam pads can often solve these minor problems. You should certainly discuss your cincernd with your surgeon if you think the garment is causeing an irregularity. None of us, responders, would ever contradict the advise of your chosen operative surgeon. Because you "paid" him not us! If you are so concerned about what garment, than buy both and try on to your satisfaction. But understand  your surgeon might/could be unhappy with you doing something on your own without his approval.. 

Whatever is easiest for your to get into.A zippered garment is fine or a spanx type garment is good too.It should not be too tight.

A garment is so important during the post operative period to apply compression, help get your drains out faster and help with pain control.  In my practice we use the Design Veronique garments and most of our patients LOVE them.  They tend to wear them longer than required because they are so easy and comfortable.  There are different stage garments with and without zippers for comfort.
