There is no known correlation between fractional lasers of the neck and thyroid cancer. The thyroid gland is in the deeper neck space, surrounding the trachea. There are many protective layers of fat, fascia and muscle between the skin and the thyroid gland. The laser does not penetrate past the skin.

Fractional lasers all emit infra-red light which is not linked to cancer formation. The wavelengths linked with causing cancer include ultra-violet and x-rays. There is no reason to suggest that fractional laser treatment with either the CO2 or Erbium-YAG lasers play any role in the development of thyroid cancer.
