I had a rhinoplasty done on July 2018. This Jan 2019 I will be attending a police academy. Police academies are intense, physically and mentally. I will prevent my nose from being injured, however it’s not guarantee that I will not be punch in the face. How can this affect my nose? How long will my nose take to be fully heal to the point that a simple bump won’t cause any damage? Is it recommended to postpone attending the police academy? If so, for how long?
Answer: Post Rhinoplasty You will need to take 1 week off work and then you have to be very cautious to not get hit in the nose for at least 4 weeks after. If you are able to perform modified duties during this time you will not ruin your surgical results.

Answer: Timing of rhinoplasty and police academy At 6 months after your rhinoplasty, the nasal bones should be healed, so in my opinion, it would be okay to attend the police academy at that point. I would recommend just checking with the surgeon who performed your rhinoplasty, since your surgeon will have the most information about your procedure and will be the person most qualified to answer your question.

Answer: Rhinoplasty and the Police Academy Dear Michael, First and foremost thank you for considering the police academy and for serving our nation. It is a very noble profession. In my opinion, you should be fine for the academy in January. Try and protect your nose to the best of your ability during your training and speak with your surgeon regarding your intent to start the Academy. Best regards, Michael V. Elam, M.D.
