Can I use Aquaphor as a face moisturizer?

Question

I have a jar on hand that I use on my 3 year old's dry skin patches. I'm just 4 days into using Accutane and have some pretty significant dry skin / peeling happening around my nose, around my mouth and on my chin. I did use it last night after I showered and it really helped. Other lotions I have just don't cut it. If you suggest not using the Aquaphor, I'll purchase the Cetaphil, Elta or Elevase moisturizers. Thanks!

Accutane is a go-to medication for patients with recalcitrant cystic acne. It can reduce pore size and also reduce sebum production in your skin, making it less oily; and in turn, dryer. Accutane can be used to control acne, but patients receiving the medication should be carefully monitored. In terms of skincare, always wear an appropriate sunscreen and reduce direct sun exposure. In my patients, I recommend a good ceramide moisturizer such as Elevase whenever they are on Accutane. This will keep the skin hydrated and reduce the oiliness of the skin that is associated with oil-based moisturizers.

Aquahphor can be a great option for dryness if it does not cause small whiteheads.  I would also recommend that you use cooler water when washing your face if you are currently using hot or hotter water. I would also recommend a mild cleanser to wash your face with (Cetaphil, Aveeno, Cerave, Dove) because antibacterial soaps and cleansers with BPOs and salicylic acids can dry your skin out.
