Red scalp after Hair Transplant ( hair graft). Any suggestions? (photos)

Question

Hi, I had the HT done 2,5 months ago and I still have the redness on the grafted area on my head . I am very confused .There are some information on line, that the redness may gone 14 days after the procedure. My doctor prescribed Ciprofloxacin and Claritin. After two weeks I do not see any difference. If this is normal to have the redness for such a long time. If there is any way to speed up the recovery process? or the redness will effect the new grafts ? Please let me know.Thank you. Matt

Hello,Graft count is often artificially inflated.  Time for hair to matriculate can take up to 18 months so time may be necessary for your hair to cycle.  The use of rogaine and regenerative techniques can help your hair cycle faster and grow per anecdotal evidence.  If there are still scalp coverage issues, discuss with your hair surgeon and determine any other steps and measures to help create scalp coverage. Best Dr. Anil Shah

Redness after a month is not typical. If you have persistent redness, you need to follow up with your doctor.  There is no way to tell how your redness correlates with your hair transplant results from descriptions and photos.

Patient's scalps react in different ways after surgery. Redness after 2.5 months is not typical. A follow-up visit with your surgeon is suggested to rule out infection and address further treatment if needed.

This Redness can last up to almost a year.  I saw one of the meds was an antibiotic so if an infection was at play that may change things a bit.

Persistent post-op redness can occur for a variety of reasons and is more likely in lighter colored individuals than darker colored individuals.In most cases it does not affect the results at all. It's just the way the person's skin reacts to surgery.A number of things can be tried to get the rednes to go away but they are not always effective. Be sure to address these issues with your surgeon and team.

It is normal to have redness for up to one month after hair transplant. Persistent redness is not normal. You have to make sure there is no infection and follow up with your doctor.

If you have significant redness after 2.5 months from a hair transplant, the first thing that would worry me is some type of infection that is present. You should go back to your doctor and get examined. Rarely, some people will retain redness, but first one must be sure that no infection is present. There are treatments for redness that your doctor can easily recommend if there is no infection.
