Is it normal to lose hair 5 months after hair transplant?

It's been 5 months since my hair transplant surgery, and i have noticed some growth around 40% which is not bad, but sometimes i notice that the small hair that are growing up a few of them fall when i wash or brush my hair is this normal i mean is this from the hair cycle that 100 to 50 hairs fall per day or am i losing my hair transplant, and is this cycle dose also affect the transplanted hair? i think i'm a very anxious and paranoid but i just don't want to miss it up.

Most people start to grow hair after 5 months after surgery so losing hair at the 5th month would not be typical.  If you are anxious or "paranoid" about your condition, please follow up with your doctor for a recheck and possible reassurance.

Thank you for posting your question.Most likely you are loosing some of your native hair as these follicles are forced to go into their resting stage (telogen) earlier in their cycle after the physiologic "stress" associated with the hair transplant. It can take a few months after the transplant until the actual hairs of those now resting follicles start to shed. Low Level Light therapy can help out in the immediate post-transplant period to stimulate the new follicles and also to prevent the surrounding hair follicles to go into "shock" and then shed. Once you are approximately 4 weeks post-transplant it is safe to start using topical stimulants. Always consult with your Doctor before you apply anything to your scalp after a hair transplant. Propecia will also help preserve those native follicles and is commonly started even before the hair transplant. Different to minoxidil, Propecia (finasteride) can be continued through the procedure. I usually have patients discontinued their minoxidil 2 weeks prior to the procedure to decrease bleeding from the scalp.Hope this was of some help. Good luck with everything

to determine what is going on over the internet but a hair transplant can take 1.5 years to fully stabilize.  It is best to always go in for a follow up if you have any concerns that require a close examination.

Hair loss may occur after a hair transplant that impacts the residual hair that remained. This is a case of delayed shock loss if that is what you are describing and impacts only the original hair. The average person looses 100-150 hairs per day, so that should not bother you as this reflects hair cycling between telogen and anagen and is normal.
