Once the fat is suctioned from theabdominal area, it is gone for good. The one, finicky thing about the abdomenis that the skin may not retract and flatten out depending on the elasticquality of the skin. You need to fully exam this with your plastic surgeon at the time of the consult. Injury to internal abdominal organs from liposuction is more of an acutemedical emergency, which can be lethal . . .
There's really nothing appreciably significant long-term with liposuction. I will qualify this by saying some of the laser and ultrasonically assisted liposuction create cutaneous scarring can be significant. It should have no effect on the internal organs ever.
Something has to go terribly wrong for internal organs to be damaged since they are, or at least should always be, outside the area treated. We generally only treat fat between the skin and muscles layers with liposuction. There have been cases of injuries to internal organs from liposuction. In those cases, liposuction was not done correctly. Some patients who have had internal organ damage from liposuction have died. Please see only board-certified plastic surgeons. Complications can happen to anyone. Plastic surgeons are the best equipped to recognize a serious complication as well as treat it. Please understand that liposuction is generally a safe procedure and the great majority of patients do fine and have good outcomes. I hope that helps.Best of luck,Mats Hagstrom, M.D.
