Possible Seroma after Tummy Tuck? (photo)

Question

I am 19 days post op after full tummy tuck with muscle repair & lipo. I feel really swollen. My waist is up 1/2" from a week ago. I'm wondering if I need to worry about a seroma. I don't see a ripple effect, but there is definite movement on the other side of my belly when I press. I just had my 3rd post op appointment yesterday. A ultrasound or sonogram might prove whether or not your do have the seroma complication.. Ask about these non invasive tests.//

It is possible to have a seroma but you really need to be seen in person. You should go back and see your doctor if you are concerned. You would often feel a fluid shift.

Seroma formation is one of the most common complications following abdominoplasty.  A seroma can form while your drain(s) are still in place, if not functioning properly, or after removal.  Typically, surgeons will leave drains in place until the 24-hour volume output decreases to below 25-30cc per day to prevent a seroma.  If a seroma does form, often it can be managed by needle aspiration in the office.  The aspirations may need to be performed several times before the seroma completely resolves.  Hopefully this helps.
