I am 10 days post op and on vacation! Is it safe for me to ride on a motorcycle and catch some tan from time to time?

Keep the sun away from scars is your best bet. Scars behave differently in different people and can become too dark permanently (hyperpigmentation or dyschromia) if exposed to the sun. Better to spray tan if you want to hide it. Definitely use a strong SPF (>30) sunscreen on it even though it is hidden by your bathing suit as some sun goes through the fabric.#tanningpostop#scarmanagement

Riding on the back of a motorcycle would probably be ok, but I would avoid driving the motorcycle.  Tanning would be fine but I would advise my patients to avoid sunlight on the surgical incision.  Have fun on your vacation!

I would advise against the motorcycle.  The breasts are still healing and they must be well protected until the wounds are stable.

Thanks for your inquiry.  My answer would be absolutely no.  At 10 days you are still at risk for both wound dehiscence (wound tearing open) and bleeding (even small muscle tear causing small hematoma can lead to hardening of the breast). Call your surgeon for further guidance.  Good Luck.  

If you were my patient, I would advise against motorcycle riding or any vigorous activity for 3 weeks post-op to minimize the chance of post-op hematoma (internal bleeding into the breast).  Also, your breast skin has been stretched so it is more susceptible to burning.  Therefore, be very careful if you want to tan your breasts.  For the best answers, be sure to contact your PS for more details.
