PRP injection before or after microneedling? Is it done in the same setting?

Hello. I was wondering when PRP injection and microneedling (with prp) is done in the same setting, what happens first? is PRP injected and then the face microneedled with PRP or is the microneedling (with prp) happening first and then the prp injections? Thanks alot.

As with many of the procedures utilizing PRP, there is no absolute standard of care. Many will apply PRP topically allowing for absorption via portals created by microneedling while others will inject and still others will employ a combination of both techniques. Ultimately, the goal is to deliver growth factors to the site of injury/inflammation promoting rejuvenation.Without, good randomized data, it remains unclear which approach is best. It is likely that the difference between the approaches is negligible as long as the PRP is delivered where it is needed most (either topically or via direct injection or both).As always, discuss your concerns with a board certified plastic surgeon (ABPS).

Thank you for your question. At our practice, we typically can perform both PRP and microneedling together on the same patient at one visit, with PRP usually done first and is injected into the skin. The downtime is minimal, with the patient usually experiencing mild redness and perhaps associated swelling or bruising that resolves within a day or two. There are multiple ways to incorporate these procedures together and they do have a synergistic effect when done together.

Thank you for your question! Yes, I will often inject PRP at the same visit I perform microneedling with PRP. I do the microneedling with PRP first, then inject the PRP right after. I hope this answer helps! Best of luck.
