these implants are very similar, but there are some key differences. Sientra' s implant is more cohesive, but Allergan just launched a similar implant (and are charging more for it). Rupture rates are similar. As for company ethics, Allergan sells to anyone who will buy their implant, which means that they support non-plastic surgeons doing breast surgery (gynecologists, emergency medicine docs, general surgeons). Sientra sells only to board certified Plastic Surgeons. So I would pick Sientra -- better implant, less expensive and a great company. And, now made in the USA!
Hello and thank you for your excellent question. We prefer the Sientra implants because we like their implant "feel", the implant texturing technique they use, and the fact that they only sell their product to board-certified plastic surgeons. The size, profile, shape, texture, and type of implant (e.g., saline, silicone gel, “gummy bear”) is based on your desired versus existing breast size and shape, your chest wall measurements, and soft tissue quality. Of course, you will need an in-person consultation to evaluate you for this procedure. Preoperative visualization and surgical simulation with the Crisalix system may help with your decision. Any treatment plan should be based on a detailed discussion with equal input from both you and your surgeon. Make sure you specifically look at before and after pictures of real patients who have had this surgery performed by your surgeon and evaluate their results. The most important aspect is to find a surgeon you are comfortable with. I recommend that you seek consultation in person with a qualified board-certified plastic surgeon. Good luck! It's a great question. The answer in my experience depends on several factors. The smallest implant that gets you where you want to go is the best. Implants less than 350cc are ideal for most patients. The bigger you go the harder you fall. Most implants are placed below the muscle. They simply...
