In my opinion, the recovery from a full abdominoplasty is a serious matter. A patient will need the use of both upper extremities for the 7-10 days after the surgery. I have seen rotator cuff surgeries post-operatively, and let me tell you, that is a "difficult" recovery to say the least. I would not recommend performing the two surgeries at the same time. It is NOT a good idea.
In my opinion both of these procedures need to be given respect in the recovery department, I agree with some of the other surgeons concerning the use of both arms during the tummy tuck recovery. Give yourself permission to be uncomfortable and take it easy during the recovery of either procedure. Even in arthroscopic rotator cuff repairs the "discomfort" and minimal movement period can seriously hinder your getting up and around after a tummy tuck. Early ambulation is critical in prevention of problems after a tummy tck such as blood clots in legs.
Yes it can, but you will need to have someone helping you 24/7 for several days. You will not be permitted to use the arm on the operated side, and you will probably need help getting in and out of bed, chair, etc. With two hands available you would need less help, but with just one.... Best wishes.
Tummy tuck with liposuction of the back and flanks is something I perform every day. I think it gives very nice results. You will have to find a plastic surgeon who is comfortable performing both at the same time and who will aggressively liposuction for the best...
Especially if they are ready to come off. It cleaner for you, makes it look better and lets your surgeon see the scar.
Typically, drains can be removed when you are producing less than 25-30ml in a 24 hour period. The final decision is up to your surgeon, so make sure to let your surgeon know how much fluid has collected.
