Is it normal to get dizzy after taking compression garment and foam pads off?

After liposuction there might be volume changes that could cause to some orthostatic hypotension. This should be transient and might be an indication that the patient is dehydrated.

What you have experienced is a incident of transient hypotension (short term low blood pressure) due to the quick release of pressure around your core. Basically, the compression garment was tight enough to gently compress your internal blood vessels and thereby increase your blood pressure. Your body had become accustomed to this blood pressure. When your abruptly removed the garment, your blood pressure dropped enough to slow the perfusion of your brain and you almost passed out. This is usually not a big deal and is not uncommon. Make sure that you remain well hydrated and consider removing your garment while sitting or laying down next time. Give yourself a few moments to equilibrate before you start moving around.

Hi there,Thanks for your question.  Most often liposuction involves a fair amount of fluid shift in the body, due to the amount of wetting or tumescent solution used and the amount of fat removed.  This can occasionally make patients feel light headed, but this resolves.  It is also normal to have an emotional response early after surgery after changing dressings and removing foam compression pads.  These feelings happen often and I encourage all my patients to call me if they have any concern.  I call all of my liposuction patients the night of surgery and the day after to help counsel them during this time.Hope this helps.
