Is there any way I can keep the piercing in during surgery or is it better that I take them out?

You must take out the piercing prior to surgery. There is a possibility that the hole may close. Reach out to your surgeon for a date that the piecing should be removed. Best wishes!

Thank you for your question! For my patients, I recommend they remove all jewelry and metal piercings, including nipple piercings, by the morning of surgery. Every surgeon has different pre and post op protocols for piercings. The amount of time to keep them out can vary from just during surgery, up to 6 weeks post op. I recommend discussing specific pre and post op instructions with your plastic surgeon. Best of luck!

Hello,Thank you for your question. You need to take out your nipple piercings before the surgery including all jewellery causing to the safety and infection issues during the surgery. You can put them on after 8 weeks following the surgery. Best Regards 

Nipple piercings are associated with a higher complication rate during BA.  They are normally removed the morning of surgery, and then replaced before the holes close down.

For safety reasons, because the piercings are near the surgery site, you will want to remove them. Get in touch with your PS and anesthesiologist to determine when the nipple piercings have to be removed. Your PS will tell you when it is safe to reinsert the piercings after your breasts have healed.

Often your surgeon will recommend removing the nipple piercings prior to surgery. If the holes close when they are removed you can have them repierced once you have healed from your augmentation. I encourage you to discuss this with your surgeon.

In our office we require patients to remove all jewelry. You can remove prior to walking into the operating room and then we can place them back in after surgery. Each surgeon has their own protocol so I would have a discussion with your board certified plastic surgeon.
