Nipple piercings and breast augmentation - how soon after can I get my nipples re-pierced?

Your surgeon is the best person to ask these questions, since they’ve advised you to remove your piercings. While there is no guarantee your piercings will close, you should follow your surgeon’s advice.

I advise my patients that they can newly pierce 6 weeks after surgery. My patients can use plastic spacers for their current piercings and have them during surgery. Your surgeon knows your condition well and has preferences on when and what to use for faster healing and recovery. Having your nipples pierced does increase the risk of infection because more bacteria live in and around your nipples in the small tunnel. It is best to wait at least 6 weeks before piercing, and better to not repierce.

It is best to listen to your surgeon and have your nipple piercings removed as recommended before your surgery. Infection post operatively can be problematic and in severe cases can lead to the implant needing to be removed. If the piercings close your surgeon will let you know when it is safe to repierce based on how you are progressing through recovery.

Thanks for your question. You should follow the advice of your plastic surgeon and wait three weeks to replace the nipple piercings. If the pierced holes close during that time, ask your PS when he/she thinks it would be safe to repierce. Your PS is the best person to gage your recovery and give advice on this.

The nipple piercings are not guaranteed to close on you. I am glad that you will be prepared for that. In general I believe you should wait at least 6 months out from surgery or longer if your surgeon recommends it before re-piercing.
