Is it normal for muscle tenderness to return 6 weeks post op BA?

This is my sendings BA as my first became exposed on the RHS. I am now just over 6 weeks post op and was completely pain free after 3 weeks. All of a sudden my RHS has started hurting if I take a deep breath or cough/laugh. I am worried something is going wrong again as it is the same side as last time and the pain has lasted about a week. The look and feel as they should. It is not unbearable and doesn't linger but is definatly there. Should I be concerned?

There are multiple reasons why tenderness may return after 6 weeks.  You are still recovering at this point. You are likely back to your normal routine and you may have overused the muscle unknowingly.  It is always best to speak with your surgeon about your concerns as he/she is most familiar with the details of your surgery and how you've been progressing through recovery.

Hello and thank you for your question. It can be normal to still have muscle tenderness and random nerve issues for several months following surgery. Many people get tender from where they had minimally been using that muscle for the first 4-6 weeks of recovery and then they go back to normal activities. It's like you are doing a workout in that area. If it continues to cause you problems, I would recommend calling your surgeon and getting checked out by them. Good luck with the rest of your recovery!
