If you have an areola reduction, with permanent sutures, are you able to return to strenuous strength training (including one rep maximums) for chest based exercises, such as bench press, chest fly, etc., once fully healed? Or is there a risk of the suture failing?
Answer: Weight-lifting after areolar reduction At 4-6 weeks, the areolar edge should be strong enough to withstand most activities such as the ones listed, provided there is no direct trauma to the nipple. The scar will take at least 6-12 months to mature, however. Also, there is always a slight chance that permanent sutures can erode over time (especially if there were skin-edge healing problems early-on), which would likely present as persistent erythema/redness at a certain spot, or thing "coming to a head" in a pimple-like process . . . Hope this helps!

Answer: Areolae You will need to wait at least 2 months, and then go back to weight lifting gradually. There still is a risk of the areolae stretching out again.

Answer: Postoperative protocol Dear UN96, you should be able to continue your activities after you are fully healed. If you are considering surgery, I would suggest you consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination, you will get more information and recommendations. Answer: Weight lifting You will be able to return to weight lifting once fully healed from surgery and cleared by your surgeon. It's important to note that the areola can still sometimes stretch even with permanent sutures. See your surgeon for more information.
