Hi Enthusiastic81888! I'm really sorry you're going through this—what you're describing is very serious, and your fear is completely understandable. Silicone injections can lead to severe complications, especially when they start migrating or triggering inflammatory reactions. Let me walk you through what may be happening and what steps you can take right now to manage this before surgical removal. What Might Be Happening: When silicone is injected—especially in large, non-medical-grade amounts—it does not stay in place. Over time, the body may recognize it as a foreign substance and can trigger chronic inflammation, leading to swelling, pain, and tissue damage, cause migration - where the silicone travels from the original site (like the buttocks) to the legs, groin, and even feet. It can block lymphatic drainage, which can result in painful swelling. Sometimes, it can even lead to infections or skin ulceration. What You Can Do Right Now: If you have any of these symptoms, go to the ER - Fever, difficulty walking, severe shortness of breath, skin turning dark or ulcerating. What You Can Do at Home: Anti-inflammatory medications -Take over-the-counter meds like ibuprofen (Advil) or naproxen (Aleve) if you are not allergic and have no medical contraindications. These can help reduce inflammation and pain. Cold compresses - Apply to swollen areas for 15–20 minutes at a time, several times a day. Elevation - Lie down and elevate your legs higher than your heart (use pillows). This can help with swelling if lymphatic flow is impaired. Compression garments (with caution) - Light compression shorts or leggings may help, but if they make the pain or swelling worse, remove them immediately. Avoid massaging or pressing on the areas - This can increase migration or worsen inflammation. Hydration and nutrition - Drink water, eat low-sodium anti-inflammatory foods (e.g., leafy greens, berries, turmeric, ginger).
