Is it possible to shave down the bone after a genioplasty? When is the best time to do it?

I had a genioplasty of advancement of 6mm and I think that it makes my face looks longer and it created step-offs in my jaws. Is it possible to shave down the bone to make my chin follows the line of my jawline? Or is the best thing to do is to reverse the procedure ? When is the best time to do it ? Which of those procedure will cause less skin sagging ?

A horizontal advancement genioplasty will always give the appearance of a longer face because a recessed chin gives the appearance of a short face. The step-offs usually resolve spontaneously but can be made smooth at 6 months.

This is a very common question that I receive.  We do a lot of bone surgery on the face and jaw.  There are definitely ways to smooth out the stepoffs and prevent skin sagging.  When was your surgery done?

Revisions can be done in a variety of ways. Step ups are normal and usually don’t show but can be felt on palpation.
Follow up with the surgeon who did your procedure or schedule a proper a second opinion in person consultation.
