Should I wear a compression vest for 6 months after only undergoing liposuction?

I had gynaecomastia grade 2 and consulted a doctor. He did liposuction and told me to wear the compression vest for 6 months. But as i searched on the net ,most of the doctors only prescribe it for 6-7weeks max. So do i really need to wear it for 6 months? Please help!

CristianoPlastic surgeons usually differ somewhat about postop care, but 6 months sounds like a long time for the elastic vest. I usually ask my patients to wear it for 2-3 weeks after lipo for Gynecomastia, and then I recommend they wear a snug fitting elastic T shirt, which is more comfortable. I recommend my patients wear their garments for a minimum of 3 weeks if not a lot of redundant skin following liposuction male breast reduction to a maximum of 6 weeks. To be effective the garment needs to fit snug but not too tight as to cause pressure problems (inspect your skin if discomfort and when skin is exposed), or prevent you from sleeping. As the edema resolves it is common for patients to switch to a smaller garment that fits - A Spanx type garment would work rather than ordering one or paying more at your doctor;'s office.Male Breast Reduction (Gynecomastia Reduction) by liposuction requires compression garments for three main reasons:it restricts the amount of edema that forms and hastens its resolution by mechanical pressureIt decreases the amount of bruisingIt assists the loose skin in retracting or shrinking

I seriously doubt compressive garments have any long-term effect on the outcome of liposuction. In my own practice I asked patients to wear them for a few weeks. In the early aftermath of surgery they provide comfort. In any event you should follow the directions of your own surgeon.
