In Russia there is a popular collagen injection called “collost” it’s free from pmma and I was told it’s clear collagen. Is there an alternative here in the USA?

Collagen is a wonderful and very smooth, delicate filler.  It did require a skin test which was sort of a pain.  Additionally, it just doesn't last very long.  Newer generation HA, hyaluronic fillers, have replaced it.  Finer HA fillers like Volbella, Restylane Refine, Belotera are good alternatives.

Collagen injections were popular in the '70s and the '80s. The problem with collagen is that it does not last a long time and it creates an allergic reaction in many patients. Collagen filler alone lasts about 3-4 months. It was being used combined with PMMA for longer and more natural results. But permanent fillers like PMMA have more risks than semi permanent ones, are non dissolvable and even if you don't have any adverse events, you will age with them where it was previously injected, making in an unnatural aging aspect of the area. These are the reasons why is not popular anymore and not widely available in most countries. On the other hand, resorbable fillers like hyaluronic acid are more widely used because of a longer lasting results (usually 9-12 months) and its natural results. Also, considered as a semi-permanent fillers, like Calcium Hydroxylapatite, is also widely used. It will add volume and stimulate your own collagen, and results lasts about 15 months, same as polycaprolactone. All of these fillers are temporary, fully resorbable, and subsequently, a more safe options than PMMA based fillers.Finally, there are also injectable collagen stimulators, that will add none or little volume, like polylactic acid.Your provider will choose the best product depending on many factors, including your goals and area of injection.
