I am more or less happy with the size of my breasts but I am not fond of my puffy areolas. They look normal when cold, but when relaxed, they are super puffy. My breasts also look pointy at some angles. Is there any surgery available to correct and flatten my puffy areolas?
Answer: Is there surgery to correct puffy areolas? Thank you for the question and pictures. You demonstrate your concerns nicely. Areola reduction involves circumferentially removing areola skin around a smaller areola design. This procedure can be done under local or general anesthesia. It is often done as part of a breast augmentation/lift, breast lift or breast reduction procedure. If the areola are "puffy" (for example, as seen with constricted or tuberous breasts) some breast tissue excision may be helpful. Patients should be aware that despite best efforts scarring will be visible and potentially abnormal ( possibly thick, raised and/or pigmented). Some areola asymmetry may also be present after surgery. Their is a small chance that a patient may lose sensation. As with all plastic surgical procedures, patients must weigh the potential benefits against the potential risks/complications while making decisions. I hope this helps.

Answer: Corretion of puffy areolas Based on these photos and your history it seems that you have a mild form of tuberous breasts. Large areolas and bulging of breast tissue underneath areolas are the main feature of this deformity. Correction of both size of areola and puffiness can be corrected using scar around areola and adjusting the underlying breast tissue to prevent further bulging. In person consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon with good reputation in breast surgery is recommended. Good luck.

Answer: What to do for puffy areolas Hi and thank you for the question. Yes there are procedures to help with puffy areolas. We typically use breast lift (mastopexy) techniques which involves a scar that goes all the way around the areolas. We usually do this in the office under local anesthesia. Best of luck. Dr West

Answer: Puffy Areolas The good news is that you have very normal looking breasts. In some of the photos, I can see the puffiness of the areolas that you are talking about. This is a very minor degree of what we call a tuberous breast. Essentially the breast tissue is "stuck" under the areola and pushes it forward. The correction of this would be to tighten the skin around the areola and reduce it's size. This would leave a scar going around the areola but would flatten the area. The tough question will be whether the puffiness is significant enough to justify the procedure and the scar on the breast. Very worthwhile to discuss this with a plastic surgeon who has experience with managing the tuberous breast
