Can the size of my areolas be increased?

Can the size of my aerolas be increased? They are so small It seems to me that they were larger when I was a teenager. I mentioned a tattoo to a friend who finally did that, and she is satisfied, she also has other tattoos. I really do want any tattoo's on my body. Thank you, Jennifer Ross

Thank you for sharing your question.  It is possible to stretch out the areola to make it larger but this requires an incision being placed around its entire circumference.  Tattoos are a less invasive option but remember that changes in hormone levels, as during pregnancy, will often enlarge the areola naturally.  Talk to an ASPS board certified plastic surgeon in consultation to discuss your best option.

Good day & Thank you for your inquiryYou can certainly have surgery to stretch your areolae but this procedure may leave you with a scar around the areola that you may regret more than your smaller areola. Do get an in person consultation with a board certified plastic and at the same time look into multiple tattoo artists who have done this type of tattoo and from there you will be able to take a more calculated decision.Best of Luck !

Tattoo is a good option and relatively non-invasive. However, they may fade and need to be repeated. I assume you meant to say do not want tattoo's in your question!Surgically a ring of tissue can be removed from around the areola so the areola then stretches to fill the larger space. This has the disadvantage of not knowing how the scar will appear. If the scar stretches or becomes keloid then I think you would find the end result worse than where you are now. Also the degree of potential stretch will be limited by how small your areolae are now. In theory you could have multiple operations to progressively stretch a small areola out but I think most surgeons would suggest a tattoo.You are best advised to seek the opinion of a suitably qualified and experienced plastic surgeon.Good luck.

The areolas could be tattooed larger or they could be stretched larger by removing some of the skin outside of them. The risk with this would be a permanent scar which could be wide.
