Hello! I had SmartLipo / Laser Assisted Lipo about a week ago on my abdomen and flanks. I didn't discharge much after the first day/two. Quick questions: 1. Is it normal to have a little staining or specs of discharge at the incision sites? 2. It feels as if a ton of bricks are weighing me down whenever I stand up - is this common? 3. Would anyone recommend CBD gummies or oil for pain and inflammation relief? 4. Should I get a lymphatic drainage massage and how soon? Thank you!
Answer: Smart Lipo Hello and thank you for the question.Drainage at the incision sites is normal. . Everything you are feeling is to be expected and will get better with each passing day.If you have any concerns please contact your surgeon. Best wishes!

Answer: Post op after Smart Lipo or liposuction Hello and thank you for your question. Yes you can have residual discharge especially in the lower situated incisions due to gravity. The sensation of “heavy bricks moving” is an indication that there is a lot of fluid and inflammation in the tissue. Lymphatic drainage is indicated as soon as you can tolerate it. This is the most likely cause of what you are observing. Still, I would definitely discuss with the doctor who performed the procedure during your post op visit. Speedy recovery, Oxana Popescu MD

Answer: Smart Lipo after care A small amount of discharge at the incision sites is normal while the are healing. As long as the incisions are not very painful or red it should be fine. The "ton of bricks" sensation is caused by swelling and tends to be the worst in the first 7-10 days. Lymphatic drainage massage can help to reduce the swelling and can be started within the first week after liposuction. It is not painful and I highly recommend it. Just make sure it is performed by a licensed lymphatic drainage therapist.

Answer: Discharge after Smart Lipo Having a small amount of discharge one week after Smart Lipo can be a normal occurrence but you should consult with your treating physician nonetheless. You should also ask a treating physician for their recommendations on the post treatment plan. Good luck from New York City

Answer: Postoperative liposuction drainage Hi and welcome to our forum! Congratulations on your recent procedure...During the liposuction procedure, a large volume of saline (salt water solution) containing epinephrine, a potent blood vessel constrictor, is infused into your soft tissues to prevent excessive bleeding. This fluid will leak from the incisions for up to a week thereafter. This is a normal phenomenon. A small amount of blood in a large volume of saline will still look like blood. However, it will not clot. If there is clotting blood eminating from the incisions, it would be wise to contact your physician. The purpose of a compression garment is to prevent bleeding and to control swelling. We usually recommend its use for the first 4-6 weeks after the procedure. 60-80% of the swelling should subside within the first 6 weeks, with the remainder slowly subsiding over 6-12 months. Every plastic surgeon has his / her own protocol for postoperative care. I recommend you follow his / her instructions. We employ lymphatic drainage, ultrasonic and radiofrequency therapy in patients who exhibit excessive or prolonged swelling. Continue followup care with your plastic surgeon.
