Does the rib implant fuse with your cartilage or your skin? Also does the new rib implant block the blood supply from the skin to the original nose cartilage? How big is the chance that the cartilage will get infected and dead inside the nose?

Hello,Rib grafts used the nose can be bone, cartilage or both. A properly placed and secured rib graft will adhere firmly to the underlyng nasal bones and can be easily secured to the nasal cartilages with sutures. The graft is living tissue that will be nourished by the nose's blood supply. It will not interfere with the blood supply of the existing tissues and it "becomes part of your nose". The incidence of infection and necrosis (death) of the graft is extremely rare when properly used. Rib grafting is an excellent tool for use in augmentation, revision and reconstructive rhinoplasty.
