Osteotomies are typically low risk even in asian noses, which have shorter bones as compared to caucasian noses. Photos would be helpful to determine if you need osteotomies though. Often times, asian noses need an "augmentation" rhinoplasty with dorsal onlay grafting.
I have performed osteotomies in Asians to narrow the bridge. I would need to see photos to know if you are a candidate for it.
Hello, complications after osteotomies are uncommon. Straightening the nose from the front view is a common part of rhinoplasty. There are ways to do it through septoplasty, suturing, as well as cartilage grafts. I recommend a virtual consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon in your area.Mark G. Hello and thank you for your question. When good technique is used, osteotomies are low risk. It is possible to make a nose straighter from the frontal view with septoplasty and spreader grafts in most noses. Make sure you specifically look at before and after pictures of real patients who have had this surgery performed by your surgeon and not just a computer animation system. You should be able to view numerous pictures of actual patients with noses similar to yours performed by your surgeon. If you cannot find enough real before and after pictures, then consider continuing your search for a surgeon. Best wishes and good luck. Richard G. Reish, M.D. FACS Harvard-trained plastic surgeon
Main risk of a nose osteotomy is the bruising associated with rhinoplasty. Osteotomy is needed to improve the appearance of your nose and make dorsal aesthetic lines (DAL) from defined. For asian rhinoplasty, it may also be needed to build the bridge of the nose by using a graft. Regarding your second question, yes, nose can be made straighter. Deviated or crooked nose can be because of cartilage or bone. For cartilage deviation, it can be improved by taking part of cartilage out and adding a graft surrounding it. For bony crooked nose, you definitely need osteotomy to improve. Risks associated with most of rhinoplasty is prolonged swelling and some bruising. If osteotomy is not done properly, it can cause crooked look but that is less than 5% chance of happening.
A full set of facial photographs and an in-person examination required to make a determination about placement of osteotomy's in the Asian nose. If the nasal bones are long enough, it should not be any problem. If there are short and flat, you're not a candidate for osteotomy's
Osteotomies are used when necessary. Nasal bones can be straightened. Please post photos for review. Best wishes.
Depending on your facial anatomy, and the desired result, an osteotomy can certainly be accomplished. Most of the time a dorsal augmentation is also performed to achieve the desired cosmetic result. It is hard to submit a reasonable answer without a photograph.
Hi paigex19,If by excess skin on the top of the nose, you mean the area you have marked, it actually looks like the tear trough, but in your case, it seems to go along with your epicanthal fold. This can be improved by fillers or fat transfer along the lower eyelid area.
Hi Courtneyc213455, It’s fairly common for patients to experience some degree of facial asymmetry, especially on the nose. In some cases, the discrepancy is quite noticeable, but based on the images you provided, the difference is not immediately obvious. You can explore different cosmetic s...
Thank you for your question and the attached photographs. Assessment for residual problems related to Bell's palsy would be important before advancing to surgery. As a general statement, most people do not have nostrils that are at the same level, but the differences can be sometimes more ...
