Is my rhinoplasty a failure? 9 days post-op.

Question

I had a septorhinoplasty. I asked for soma VERY subtle change in straightening the bridge, barely refining the tip, and fixing the hanging collumella. I asked very clearly for something very conservative and subtle. I even brought photos of my nose photoshopped. I got a flat, wide nose with no tip. I’m only 9 days or but there is no now my nose could even resemble what I wanted even when the swelling comes down... can the nose change so much in a few months?

At nine days, your nose is still very swollen.  Give it some time, as your nose takes approximately one year to heal.  Hope this helps!

You need to have patience with your body as it begins to heal. The skin, bone and cartilage are all traumatized during surgery. Inflammation (swelling) is the normal response and will help your nose to heal and look beautiful in the end. If, one year from now, you are unhappy with your nose, then that is the time to think about a revision procedure. Right now, concentrate on other things you like to do and let your nose and under eyes take the time to heal. I think there was a failure of your surgeon to manage expectations, otherwise it is too early to tell. A week after a rhinoplasty tips are very swollen which can end up distorting everything from the height and width of the tip to the definition. Do yourself a favor and try not to judge the look of your nose for 6 months. Even the dorsum/bridge will settle over 3 months. Remember all plastic surgery relies on the body's ability to heal and this takes time- more time that you want.

The final appearance of the tip will not be apparent for months.  Additionally, there is always “letdown” psychologically after rhinoplasty. Keep in mind that the nose is a pyramid such that addressing a dorsal hump and a hanging columella will produce a true modification of appearance.
