Stiches on inside of nose are long and itch/hurt my nose? Is this normal 1 week post rhinoplasty?

Question

I have stitches inside the tip of my nose (on the sides) nose after an open rhinoplasty, they are supposed to dissolve. They are quite long, I can see them by looking at my nostrils and they keep poking the inside of my nose which tickles/hurts which is quite uncomfortable. Is this normal? Is there anything I can do? When will they go away? I had the surgery on Monday June 11th.

If the stitches are long following an open rhinoplasty and if they are irritating you, your surgeon can trim them back. They only need to be as long as to keep the knot of the stitch together.   Sometimes, they can take a while to dissolve so it is best to discuss this with your surgeon so you do not have to be irritated.

We use dissolvable Chromic sutures on the inside of the nose during rhinoplasty surgery, and if they become visible, we suggest our patients visit us or snip the suture at the nostril margin. If it's uncomfortable, these may be nylon sutures on a septal splints which will require removal by your surgeon, so a visit or call to your surgeon's office for specific advice may be your next best step. Thanks so much for reaching out. It is quite common with stitches inside your nose can be uncomfortable after having rhinoplasty. Leave them alone and do not pick at them. Follow your surgeons postoperative instructions and stay in close contact with them.I hope this helps :-)

Since the sutures are bothering you, ask your surgeon to trim them.  It can take several days for them to dissolve.
