Is there a way to reduce malar fat pad? (Photo)

Question

I have very chubby cheeks when I smile ("chipmunk cheeks) which I think are very distracting and generally unappealing. I would like to reduce them. I nearly certain this is different from buccal fat removal as my concern is with this uppermost part of the cheeks that seem to form a round ball when smiling. Is there any way to treat this issue in particular?

I have done microliposuction of this area. It's difficulty because you have to be very gentle so the results can be minimal. A good way is to masks that area with creating other valleys and peaks which then lead to new shadows and curves in the right places.

The buccal fat pad is a rounded mass of fat in the middle of your cheek. It’s located between facial muscles, in the hollow area beneath your cheekbone. The size of your buccal fat pads affects your face shape.
Everyone has buccal fat pads. However, the size of buccal fat pads can vary greatly.
If you have larger buccal fat pads, you might feel like your face is too round or full.
You can be a candidate for a Buccal Pad removal surgery.

This area should be maintained as removing it will give you a hollow and aged appearance. Personally I would urge you not to have this area treated. If you do have it treated then careful microliposuction should be performed. The picture is cut off but if your BMI is elevated then weight loss can easily slim this area. The reason we perform Buccal Fat removal is because the Buccal Fat Pad is resistant to diet and exercise and typically only shrinks with extreme starvation.
