Possibility of SculpSure provoking Lupus/autoimmune flare up?

Widespread rash all over body and stomach still here one week after Sculpsure, not better despite strong topical steroids for poison ivy (rx by dermatologist), now having some joint aching. Never had real Lupus symptoms or diagnosis, but did have intermittenly positive ana and antiphospholipid antibodies ~15 ago. Could it be it??

With auto-immune conditions, there is an unpredictable aspect about when and why it could flare up.  Since you had some abnormal lab tests long ago and are having a rash, I suggest you see a rheumatologist as well as your derm.  Some retesting might be in order and specialists evaluation to see if your rash and joint aching are really related to some condition like lupus.

There are no reported incidences of lupus flare ups following sculpture treatment. This is probably just a coincidence. I would consult with a doctor specializing in Lupus to obtain a medical evaluation for this disease.

There is nothing that I have read that shows a connection between SculpSure and Lupus. However, given your body's reaction, I would recommend that you not continue with your SculpSure treatments and find another body contouring option such as liposuction. Best of luck.

There is no documented report of autoimmune disease triggered by SculpSure or Cool Sculpting.  But, based on your symptoms, I would not under any more SculpSure sessions.

sculpsure is a laser that causes an increase in the temperature of the fat cells to 42-47 degrees Celsius. It does stimulate an inflammatory reaction by your body to go to the area and remove the treated fat cells through your lymphatic system.  I have never heard of this happening or stimulating any kind of autoimmune disease but autoimmune diseases are not all well understood. And yet your description sounds a bit more like an allergic reaction, not seeing it first hand. I would go back to the treating physician and have the area looked at. It maybe that you had an allergic reaction to the oil used or the wipes or if you had a body Cream on your skin and it changed while the laser was working resulting in a chemical that you are allergic to. Regardless, I would go back to the office immediately and have a medical professional evalate you in person

Noting in the literature documenting this event. SculpSure and other body contouring methods such as Coolsculpting, Thermage etc does not cause nor flare up lupus. If you have an allergic contact dermatitis due to Poison Ivy, possibly a course of systemic steroids maybe needed, tapered slowly. From what I remember in my resident years a long long time ago, this is the best method to treat this form of allergic contact dermatitis. Be guided by a general medical dermatologist. Dr Davin Lim.
