The vast majority of lumps under the chin do resolve over time. Our office has never had a permanent nodule, or bulb of tissue after the allotted healing time from Kybella injections. We do suggest gentle massaging of the area to help while you are healing.
Sometimes some firm areas can occur due to inflammation after Kybella. However, the vast majority of these do resolve on their own with time. You can speed up their resolution with some gentle massage and if persistent, please see your original practitioner. Personally I have never seen a firm lump be permanent although it has been rarely reported.
Lumps can be common after Kybella and can take several weeks to resolve. Keep in mind, you will most likely need 2 to 3 sessions. I space out each session 6-8 weeks. I think it will be likely you will need only 2 sessions for a total of 4 vials. I believe you would be a good candidate for neck/submental liposuction to contour the jawline. I hope this helps.
In almost all cases the lumps resolve, although they may take awhile before they do. Low intensity shock wave treatment is what I use when I encounter post treatment swelling and lumps.
Kybella (Deoxcholic Acid) is the first non-surgical, FDA approved injection to reduce submental fat. Some of the side-effects include bruising, swelling, redness and numbness, though most tend to subside over time. To reduce this we as patients to discontinue any blood thinners prior to their treatment, and recommend an anti-inflammatory post treatment. Treatments are done once every 4-6 weeks, for up to 5 sessions.Always discuss these possible side-effects prior to treatment.
Dear g2005:Don’t worry! The rare firm area after a Kybella treatment does go away. This is just a result of the inflammation and remodeling of the connective tissue after the fat cells dissolve. Generally, other people can’t see these firm areas, even if you can feel it.I do hope this is helpful to you. Feel free to come to our Kybella Open House tomorrow night if you have questions about this treatment. All the best, Dr. Clark
Lumps from Kybella injection is something that is often seen, likely due to localized inflammation and edema. If the lumps persist or continues to be painful, best to consult your physician again as adverse events, although rare, has been reported.
G2005,Lumps and swelling after Kybella are very common. It takes up to 6-8 weeks for some lumps to completely dissolve, massaging the area 2-3 times a day can speed the recovery process up.Best of luck,Dr. Mahajan
Kybella can produce these lumps that take a very long time to resolve. I routinely add a Cellutone treatment (Z-wave shock is similar) after every Kybella treatment. I have found that most people can have this immediately after treatment. It helps to prevent the lumps and get results faster. You can do this later as well if you already have lumps. They do eventually resolve even without shock-wave treatment, but it can take months.
It is our experience that this is a common side effect from the treatment and should resolve with time.
Fishyface:Yes, if areas of fullness remain after lipo, Kybella is a great treatment to clean those up. It's effective, with minimal downtime and has less risk than getting further lipo.Good luck!
Thank you for your question and photos. We commonly see induration or firm bumps under the skin after kybella treatments. Massage and time help these to resolve.Best wishes,Dr. Kavali
Hi. I have never opened a vial of Kybella and not used it in its entirety. Like my colleagues, I never use any less than one or two vials per treatment and would not store an open vial of kybella. Thank you for your question.
