The recovery after liposuction of the neck under the chin is relatively quick for most people. I would say the immediate recovery usually does not take more than a week. Swallowing should not be affected by the procedure.
Chin liposuction typically is one of the easiest facial procedures one can have. The incision is minimal (usually 1/2 inch or less) and the downtime is a few days. Many docs, like myself, use a compression headwrap after the procedure to decrease the swelling and chance of fluid collections (ie hematomas (blood blisters) for 1-2 days after the procedure. During this period it may be difficult/awkward to breath and swallow, but at no time is your airway ever in danger of being compromised. Your doc may recommend a soft diet for those days just be sure you can eat without difficulty.Once you get past your initial compression, the rest of the recovery is pretty easy. Most patients in my practice state that their swallowing "felt normal" by one week post-procedure. Hope this helps!
