Can I Do Liposuction Even Though I Have Lupus?

I have lupus, diagnosed 3 years ago. So far I only haven't had no breakdowns, neither taken medication for lupus. I have a normal life, some pains in my legs sometimes, not often. I go to my doctor every two month to 3 month everything is good every time I go. I was wondering if it would be fine to do the lipo. Please help!!

The decision to proceed with liposuction in the patient with lupus is at the discretion of the surgeon and the immunologist.

If you are not taking any medications for your lupus, it is unlikely that you carry much in the way of additional risk for surgery. However, after you have seen a plastic surgeon for a plan, a visit to your rheumatologist, or whoever manages the lupus, is in order.

If the doctor who cares for your Lupus clears you medically, then there should be no reason you could not have lipo. Discuss this in full with  your physicians.

Thank you for the question and pictures. Well-controlled rheumatologic disease should not be a contraindication to liposuction surgery in most cases. Run this question by your rheumatologist;  it will be helpful to your plastic surgeon to have “clearance” prior to proceeding.

If you have an autoimmune type condition such as lupus then you should get medical clearance prior to undergoing any elective surgical procedure.

After examination and discussion with your primary physician. It is possible to undergo liposuction and it may be wise to undergo small area liposuction first to see how you tolerate the procedure prior to engaging to any larger procedure. You need to have medical clearance by your treating doctors/rheumatologist.
