I faint when I have injections or blood draws sitting up as I suffer from vasovagal syncope. Can I lay down while I have the Botox injected? I'm nervous if I don't lay down during the injections I will faint and have to lay down after the injections, which could affect it. If I lay down during blood draws and injections I do not faint, so I hope I can do this during Botox. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Answer: Laying down for botox injections Although we often tell our patients not to lie down or bend over for four hours after Botox to minimize the risk of the Botox affecting adjacent areas, most doctors know this is a theoretical concern that has never been tested. In fact, most doctors know from the science of Botox that the medicine is bound to the local area soon after injected. In the olden days some doctors diluted the Botox with a larger amount of saline and they would have to inject a larger volume of liquid to equal the same number of units as a provider such as me who injects more concentrated Botox. If one of their patients had Botox injected in the forehead especially over the eyebrows, not between the eyebrows, and then bent over of laid flat, possibly the liquid would move slightly to neighboring areas and affect muscles that shouldn't be treated such as those of the upper eyelids.I do know of colleagues who have injected their patients lying down without adverse effect. I would still caution my patients after treatment not to lie down or bend over for four hours, until that old recommendation is proven unnnecessary. The information provided in Dr. Shelton's answer is for educational purposes only and is not intended to constitute medical advice. Answer: Can I lay down while getting a Botox injection? There is no reason why you shouldn't be able to lay down during a toxin injection as the targets are muscles, not wrinkles or furrows. I do place patients in a semi sitting position or even full sitting when I do filler injections as the gravity affects the appearance of depressions, prominences and furrows in the face. It is important that you get up slowly after the injection and that someone is with you. Remember if you ever feel fainting, quickly sit down or lay down where ever you are. This would prevent a fall and would help you recover quickly.

Answer: Laying Down for Injections Thank you for your excellent question, and I'm sorry to hear that this tends to happen to you. There is no issue at all with receiving a neuromodulator injection, like Botox, while lying down. I inject several patients this way, and find it more relaxing for them during the treatment. This should not negatively affect your result. Hope this helps!
