Which is true?

Thank you for your interesting question! Fillers should not really stretch out the skin especially if the right amount of product is being used. If you're seeing a qualified injector, I don't think you have much to worry about.

Fillers do not stretch out the skin provided the right amount of fillers area used. As you age you may need more fillers since you lose volume and skin elasticity. If you consult a board certified cosmetic dermatologist who is an expert in cosmetic injections you should have a good result.  Best, Dr. Green

Thank you for your question and the interesting article as well! I think that it is possible to stretch the skin with over injection of fillers, especially when large amounts of filler are used without reason. It is important to remember that fillers are used to restore lost volume or create volume where there is little. Filling in lost volume should not create stretching; over-filling the face might...especially as you age and elastin becomes less prominent in the connective tissue. I think its best to be cautious and not over-inject. Add natural volume back into the face for a rejuvenated, refreshed appearance but do not over-do-it. Best Regards, Dr. Bector

I don't agree with this article or the idea of fillers "stretching" the skin atleast not with the amounts of filler that are used in normal clinic practice.

Hi,The answer to this question can get very complicated, but with the amount of fillers typically injected (small amounts) the skin will not expand. There are instances where if the skin is stretched extensively and for a long period of time, it will remain loose and stretched out. Think about it this way, if you gain 15 pounds of fat, and then exercise and lose all the weight in a few weeks or months you will not have a bunch of loose sagging skin on your body. However, if you are obese and loose 100 pounds, you are likely to have loose sagging skin. Best,
