Is it appropriate for a dentist to place a 3/4 crown instead of a veneer without any discussion or explanation when a patient payed for a veneer? How i know the only similarity they share is the material and durability. I would appreciate a detailed explanation.

You are right. A new crown should feel like a natural tooth, be right on the bite and you should be able to floss without the floss shredding or getting stuck under the crown.

It is not uncommon , to have some tooth pain or discomfort for a few days to a week after dental work. Your dentists protocol was correct to adjust the bite. If symptoms do not improve over the next two weeks you may have to further evaluate the root canal...
