My PS wouldn't treat my ear incisions early on. They were red, raised shortly after necklift. He said they shouldn't be injected before 6 mos. A facial PS I met said they are hypertrophic as a result, very far forward and below ears and too red. I don't want to see my PS again, so can I safely leave these alone until a revision necklift in 6 more mos? Can a scar revision fully correct the lumpy scars both in front and in back of ears? What causes prolonged redness and can I treat at home?

Answer: Scarring OK to leave the scars alone till your revision. No harm in waiting. Silicone scar sheets can be purchased and safely used at home to help the redness.

Answer: Facelift scars I would leave those alone for now. Your scars are a little more forward than my standard placement. They are a little red right now. I don't really see anything raised in your picture. It is possible that they are a little wide, but I am not examining you in person. Scars start out red. Most of the time they will fade and turn white. Some people take longer than others. I would evaluate your goals very carefully. Is the result of the surgery acceptable other than the scars? If so, I don't know that I would revise the surgery. It is possible to do a scar revision, but if you are a person who has red scars for longer then you will have red scars after your revision. I would not have injected steroids into your scars early either. There is a significant risk of widening. There are other treatments for the red scars that would potentially be helpful, such as laser or light based treatments. I wouldn't revise the scars for a full year after surgery.
