You might consider lymphatic massage, ultrasound, and radio frequency treatments to help speed up the healing.  Its always wise to follow up with your surgeon.

Swelling is common for the two weeks following surgery, although swelling may last shorter or longer depending on the patient and their unique healing process. I suggest that you continue following the recovery instructions provided by your board certified facial plastic surgeon.

It can take up to 6 months for your final results. I recommend following up with your surgeon about their after care recommendations. To speed up healing, you can try adding hyperbaric oxygen, lymphatic massage, venus legacy or exilis radiofrequency treatments. and you do need to heal to determine just how much of an issue that roll will be.  Yes, you can massage and you can do lymphatic exercises but if that is where your dissection in your neck stopped as you implied what your surgeon told you, it could be a more persistent problem.  But still, at this point, you can only focus on healing and following your surgeons instructions and hope for the best.

This is the reason I no longer use drains, the presence of the drain disposes to drain tract induration, probably from retained fluid after it is removed. I would have the area checked to make sure that there is no fluid there. You will probably need very dilute steroid injections to hurry the hardness along. Untreated the woodiness will last 6 month to a year. Can't see enough of the rest of the neck to say anything about it.
