Can I dive after a nose implant?

Question

I'll wait about 2-3months before i start diving and i have to do it for about 2 years. But the equipment involved means that i'll have a mask pressing against my nose and i wonder if it will dislodge the implant over time. Also, i need to equalise the pressure by doing Valsalva where i need to "blow my nose while pinching it", so again will this destabilize the implant? Thank you very much in advance!

I would certainly clarify with your rhinoplasty surgeon about the type of implant and his/her thoughts about activity levels, diving.  Agreed that a full face mask that puts less pressure on the area might be warranted..

Valsalva and pressure equalization is not very likely to cause a problem, but if a mask presses hard against an implant early after surgery, there may be issues for a handful of patients.  If possible, you might try a full face mask.

There are masks that are full face and do not push on the nose.  You can try that if you are worried.

There too many variables such as what type of graft or implant is placed, the thickness of the graft and the skin and where the graft is placed. In our practice, we tell patients it is acceptable start diving 2 to 3 months after a rhinoplasty procedure
