Is it safe to use glycolic acid on your nose 4 months after rhinoplasty?

The skin on/around my nose has been very oily post rhinoplasty causing breakouts on my nose, I started using glycolic acid facial wipes on my nose at the 4 month mark and they have been helping a lot, but I wanted to make sure they are safe to use 4 months in.

Hello!  Thank you for your question.  Glycolic acid helps reduce excess oil, prevent clogged pores and produce a more even complexion.  Products with glycolic acid help break down sebum which can bind skin cells and debris and clog your pores.  While your skin will absorb glycolic acid, the agent only affects the uppermost layer of skin.  If your outer incisions have healed, you can safely use glycolic acid treatments without adverse effects.  I hope this information helps you. Yes, after 4 months post Rhino it is safe to use glycolic acid wipes on your nose. You could also try using salicylic acid to reduce oil production.

Personally, I wouldn’t have a problem with a patient using glycolic acid 4 months after rhinoplasty. Your nose is mostly healed on the exterior and will just be recovering from internal swelling for the next 8 months or so. However, every facial plastic surgeon is different. Hello,Thanks for your question. Glycolic acid only creates a superficial exfoliation so it is safe to use 4 months after rhinoplasty. If you are oily, a topical retinol is a better choice if you aren't too sensitive. It will control oil and acne more aggressively.Good luck,Dr. Shah

It is completely safe to use the glycolid acid facial wipes at the 4 month mark. I even allow my patients to use them at the 2 week mark to help with any breakouts associated with having the splint on for 7 days.

It's always best to check with your operative surgeon, but in our practice we would allow patients to undergo glycolic acid peels four months after rhinoplasty procedure.
