Can I get Clear + Brilliant three days before a tropical vacation?

I schedule a clear + brilliant facial for a date three days before I leave for Cancun. The office said this would be fine, but I'm still concerned I'm risking dangerous levels of sun exposure. I put SPF 50 everyday and obviously would continue to do so during vacation. However, I feel that no matter how much sunscreen I put on I always get a bit of color since I have very fair skin. Is it really ok to be doing Clear + Brilliant this close to vacation?

After your Clear + Brilliant treatment your skin will be more sensitive to the sun, which can increase the likelihood of sunburns and unwanted pigmentation.  To achieve the best results from your treatment, you should avoid as much sun exposure as possible for about a week following treatment.  If you are planning on spending a considerable portion of your vacation in the sun and don’t want to cover up, I would recommend that you reschedule your treatment to avoid damaging sensitive skin.

I do not recommend doing any laser or IPL treatments before sun exposure.  I advise waiting 3 to 4 weeks before having sun exposure after a laser or IPL treatment.  Daily broad spectrum sunscreen is a must.

The treatment should be fine; doesn't cause sun sensitivity.  But, if anything happens, you are far from help.  If need be you can always send your dermatologist a selfie but I would probably wait.until you return.

Absolutely NOT.  Even if you slather on sunscreen and wear a hat, your skin will be in the healing phase and you are at great risk for pigment changes which are often very difficult to correct, depending on your skin type. Wait approximately  2 weeks after your vacation while your tan fades and then consider a treatment under the direction of a physician to be sure that the timing is correct.  All the best,  Alexis Parker, MD
