How soon can a capsule be formed around a seroma? (photo)

Have the ultrasound done as your PS recommended; it will tell you if the seroma is encapsulated.  I prefer to aspirate the fluid collection if they cause contour deformity right away.  Your plastic surgeon should be informed and make the decision.

Hi and thanks for your question. Based on your photos, you don’t have too much seroma and don’t worry, this kind of seroma can not cause capsule formation, it is absorbed by your body with time. For clarification purpose, generally capsule formation occur against the foreign material

Thank you for your question. Seromas do occur with tummy tucks. Typically they can be aspirated with a needle in the office. I recommend following up with your PS or consulting with one new where you live to have it drained. Good luck with your recovery.

If you have a serum your best bet is to have it aspirated.This often requires several treatments. A capsule can form if the seroma persists for more than just a few weeks.

Dear swiggy222,Thank you for your question.  It would take several weeks for a seroma to organize with a definite capsule.  I recommend tha tyou follow your surgeons advice and get the ultrasound.  Also a capsule would not prevent the seroma from being aspirated.  hope this helps & good luck.James Sheridan, MD
