Is it absolutely necessary to stop Prozac before BBL?

Question

When the doctor tells you to stop all medications other than whats prescribed prior to a procedure like BBL, is usually because of the way the drug interacts with the general anesthesia and or your blood. So what about Prozac (Fluoxetine 40 mg) and BBL?

Thanks for your question. You can stop taking Prozac the day before surgery and resume the day after surgery. Please always consult with a board certified plastic surgeon.

You should run through your med list with your doctor to make sure you follow their recommendations 100%. I do not have my patients stop anti-depressant such as prozac because the side effects of stopping this type of medication without weaning can be pretty substantial. Plus the post op period after cosmetic plastic surgery can be an emotional and anxious time for patients.

I do not think fluoxestine will have any side effects for bbl. Half-life of this medicine will take a long time compared to other medicines. If there is any side effect, I recommend that you stop using the drug at least a month before the operation.
