Will this make the nose look weird. I know that thin skin shows more so there’s no room for error. If I have exact measurements of my old nose, can this be closely replicated when adding a dorsal hump in size and shape using grafting?
Answer: Adding a dorsal hump Revision rhinoplasty is complicated and demands exceptional skill on behalf of the surgeon and great communication with the patient about realistic goals and expectations.A hump can potentially be recreated. Cartilage grafts would need to be used and carefully positioned. Make sure to seek out the care of a board certified plastic surgeon with extensive experience in revision rhinoplasty. Find someone you connect with who will listen to your concerns and provide you with a framework for what is possible. Gary Linkov, MD Facial Plastic Surgeon in Manhattan

Answer: Rhinoplasty Hello again and thank you for both your questions. Grafting, whether its cartilage or fascia can be commonly used to augment the nasal dorsum (i.e. to add a dorsal hump) if this will restore the nose to a similar appearance as it was before. Photographs of your old nose would help, but as always, an in person examination with a board certified plastic surgeon is step #1... Please refer to my previous answer about what to look for in a plastic surgeon. Good luck. Mark K Markarian, MD, MSPH Harvard-trained Board Certified Aesthetic Plastic Surgeon

Answer: Nasal evaluation Hello and thank you for your question. The best advice you can receive is from an in-person consultation. Adding pictures of your nose would be helpful. Dorsal augmentation can be achieved with diced cartilage wrapped in fascia in many patients. This decision should be based on a detailed discussion with equal input from both you and your surgeon. Make sure you specifically look at before and after pictures of real patients who have had this surgery performed by your surgeon and evaluate their results. The most important aspect is to find a surgeon you are comfortable with. I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified plastic surgeon who can evaluate you in person. Best wishes and good luck. Richard G. Reish, M.D. FACS Harvard-trained plastic surgeon
