So I am 2 days Post-Op from breast reduction surgery and am noticing my right breast is significantly larger than the other. I am concerned because the doctor ended up taking out more from my left side because he thought it was larger, now the right looks much larger. Is this normal? I am right handed, not sure if this makes a difference.
Answer: Breast Reduction Thank you for your question. You are very early in your recovery/healing process. Give it some time. Contact your surgeon with any questions and concerns. Best wishes!

Answer: Breast reduction: one breast is significantly larger. Is this normal? Congratulations on having undergone the breast reduction procedure. Some degree of breast asymmetry is to be expected, short and longer term, after breast reduction surgery. However, if there is a "significant" asymmetry present, I would be concerned about the possibility of a complication such as bleeding and/or fluid accumulation (seroma). In other words, significant asymmetry after any type of breast surgery is a concern that you should make your plastic surgeon aware of. Once complications are ruled out, you will need to exercise patience and allow for the healing process to occur. Best to evaluate the longer-term outcome of the procedure performed several months (six months to one year and beyond) from now. Best wishes.

Answer: Asymmetric Healing after Breast Reduction Surgery Thank you for sharing your experience with us. Our goal as board certified plastic surgeons, is to create as close to symmetric breasts during breast reduction surgery, which may include removing more breast tissue from one side than the other. All women initially are slightly asymmetric and the way you swell can be asymmetric. However, most important is that your surgeon should examine you to make sure you do not have a collection of fluid (hematoma/seroma). This usually presents itself by significant size difference, hardening, and pain. We would be happy to see you, to help you in your healing process.
