2 weeks post FUE, is the crust falling out of the implanted area with hairs normal? (Photos)

Question

Today is 13th day post up. I used an avocado oil to massage the implanted area per instructions to remove the crust. I notice after shampooing with prescribed shampoo that I've been using since day 2 (just tapped it in inplanted area first 12 days), I notice that the crust had hairs in them. And many are still in the implanted area. Is that ok? Should there be hairs there or am I removing crust prematurely with the implanted hair attached? Should I removed all the crust slowly with the oil?

The hair you  see are the old ones which were together transplanted with your grafts. Those will fall off and this is something normal. You do not need to rub or scratch. Gentle washing is enough but we recommend that in between 10-12 days after a hair transplantation all the scabs are fallen off. If it does not work so please apply a lotion which helps to soften the scabs.

It is best to ask your surgeon about post operative care as each doctor has their unique regimen.  You should not have to use avocado oil unless your doctor recommended this.Some doctors and wash your hair and help you remove the crusting in their office.

You certainly may remove the crusts from the scalp where you have surgically implanted hairs. Usually there will be a hair shafts in most crusts. This is completely normal. The stem cells have been deposited by the graft which are located in the root sheath and will begin to regrow a new hair in about 3 months. Using the avocado oil is certainly fine with some light massaging both in and out of the shower.

This is normal. The transplanted hairs usually start shedding around the same time as when the scabs are ready to come off.

It is normal and expected for the hair in the transplanted follicles to fall out.  The follicles are fine and new hair will start growing.

Each hair transplant surgeon has a slightly different set of rules to help patients recover from FUE. In general, the transplanted hairs should not fall out before day 10.  As I am sure you are aware, the transplanted hair is expected to fall out eventually and all that matters is that the seed (the follicle) takes hold. In my experience, patients who have kept their hairs for longer than 10 days and show a little growth of the transplanted hairs before they fall out get a great result because the follicles are viable. It appears this way in your case, though without an in person exam - it is not possible to be certain. I would recommend you speak with your transplant surgeon regarding specific instructions. The crusts you have now should have been washed off in the first 1-2 days before they set in. Now you need to leave a shampoo and conditioner on your scalp for 15 minutes each and gently rub off those crusts that come off easily

It is expected that you will lose the transplanted hairs around the 2 week mark. That is okay though, because by this time the follicles have planted themselves and you will be growing brand new hairs in that area around the 3-4 month mark.
