How much does lidocaine that has already been added to the syringe by the manufacturer replace the dermal filler?

It used to be that lidocaine had to be mixed via an additional mixing syringe into the syringe of radiesse, juvederm. etc. Now they already come with the lidocaine prefilled but the amount in the syringe is still the same as before it came prefilled with lidocaine. So how much less of the actual dermal product is the consumer getting?

I love this question!  This is the kind of thing I think about all the time. I believe the lidocaine is in a more concentrated form compared to the 1% or 2% lidocaine we would typically mix into the product. I have not noticed any difference in volume using the products straight vs premixed with lidocaine. Having said that, I often add extra lidocaine to create what we call "hyperdilute" filler. By thinning out the product, we can inject more superficially without risk of visible bumps. The hyperdilute product will integrate into the skin and stimulate some natural collagen formation and actually give you more volume. This technique can be used with any filler and is starting to catch on among more advanced injectors. If you really want to take full advantage of using fillers to boost natural collagen, you can look into the Vampire Facelift where fillers are combined with Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) from your own blood to create some amazing results.

The lidocaine that comes with the syringe is in its powder form, so it does not change the quantity of the HA. Doctors used to premix it in its liquid form, which gave it a but more volume but affected the physical properties of the actual filler.
