Delivering consistent quality, Liposuction results is more difficult than most people realize. The number of plastic surgeons who truly masters this procedure are in a small minority. Liposuction should be considered a permanent and irreversible procedure. Correct and poorly done. Liposuction is inherently difficult and sometimes not possible. Revision Work as many times more difficult than Primary Liposuction soul provider selection is of utmost importance for anyone considering Revision Work. In other words, if your provider did not have the skills to deal with Liposuction, well in the first place, they most likely we’re not in a position to do any type of revision work. Correct thing poorly done Liposuction is generally done using Revision Liposuction(removing more fat), fat transfer, a combination of both, or occasionally converting the procedure to a skin tightening operation like a tummy tuck if the problem is on the lower abdomen. Correcting overzealous, liposuction with fat transfer is inherently difficult because the area is generally devoid of sufficient host tissue to support grafted fat. This makes fat survival more difficult, and to get improvements patients generally need to gradually build up the fat layer with multiple rounds of it carefully done fat grafting. Some people have better potential for improving outcomes with fat grafting than others, and assessing the candidacy for revision is a complex process that always requires careful judgment and an in person consultation. For those considering having Liposuction, I cannot emphasize enough the importance of provider selection. To find the right provider I suggest patient start the process by having multiple in person consultations. During each consultation, ask each provider to open up their portfolio and show you their entire collection of before, and after pictures of previous patient who had similar body characteristics to your own. An experienced provider should have no difficulty showing you the before and after pictures of at least 50 previous patients. An experience provider should in fact have hundreds or preferably thousands of before and after pictures to choose from. Being shown a handful of pre-selected images, representing the best results of a providers career is insufficient to get a clear understanding of what the average results look like in the hands of each provider or how many of these procedures they’ve actually performed. Being board-certified in plastic surgery, with years of experience, and an overall good reputation does not mean somebody has mastered any one single procedure especially not Liposuction. There are no easy fixes and there are no non-surgical options for collecting poorly done Liposuction. In your case, the best hope is to do fat transfer by someone who has a proven track record with making quality assessment and delivering quality results. The number of sessions of fat grafting needed, depends on multiple variables, especially how much soft tissue is available to support the grafted fat. Typically 2-4 sessions, a fat transfer should help reestablish and improved contour. Revision Work can easily make things worse, especially in the hands of providers who, like sufficient skills and experience. Best, Mats Hagstrom, MD
